Fellow scratch builders,
I'm making the form blocks for my 601XL firewall. Any words of advice on how to taper the top (14 degrees open), sides (3 degrees open) and bottom (10 degree closed)?
Also, any special tips of forming the .018" galvanized steel?
Thanks.

A quick follow up to my questions.
I do have quite a bit of experience in making form blocks for my rudder, horizontal stab, flaps, ailerons and wing ribs. I'm really asking about the uniqueness of this part's material (galvanized steel) and the open flanges (3 and 14 degrees).
Thanks again.

Hi Larry ,I built my firewall strictly to the plans and it worked perfectly .It did not require any additional twicking. I belive it is one of the better parts of my plane. As to how I got the angles correct I don't remember ,must not be a big thing . Wade Jones

Thanks, guys. I'm going with the KISS method that you've outlined. Making flat flanges that are later tweaked makes life a lot easier for me. I'm off to bend some metal.

Hi Larry:

As you can see from the above picture it does not take superior intelligence to build the firewall!
Just do it like all the other formed parts and it will be fine. It stays bent better since it is steel.
Here are some more photos from the process:
