After almost starting on a Zenith 601XL, I decided to build an S-19. I met Tracy Standish and Randy Schlitter at Sun-n-Fun and saw the first production airplane. What swayed my decision? As an engineer, I liked many of the finishing touches on the S-19. The horizontal stabilizer is much more "precise" in its mounting. I liked the rod/tube controls (vs. all cables in the 601XL). I particularly liked the sliding canopy and the way that it was engineered. I liked the safety features that are designed into the S-19. I have also been concerned about the recent 601XL crashes that some say were allegedly caused by in-flight structural failure of the wings (to be fair, the final reports are not all in). On the flip side, the S-19 is a brand new design with only one airplane flying (there are many hundreds of the Zenith 601XL flying)... So I decided to take the risk with the S-19... I'm looking forward to receiving the Empennage Kit and getting started. The factory quoted about 6-8 weeks delivery, less than what they were quoting at Sun-n-Fun....
