Guys,

One time I had my engine quit when I was flying inverted after about 15 seconds or so. On another 3 or 4 ocassions I had been making a long high speed descent say about 360kph dropping 4000 ft per minute in a big turn to the left and the engine starting running rough. When it started shaking I leveled off and pulled the power back some and then it started running smooth again.

I suspected that perhaps the flop tube had a crack in it or was broken. So I just tonight took out the flop tube. I find no sign of a crack, but it is quite stiff. When I hold the tube in the position it would be for upright flight the flop tub hangs nicely, almost down at a 90 degree angle to the fitting. BUT, when I roll the fitting over to put the flop tube in the inverted orientation the flop tub basically sticks out straight from the fitting and does not flop down below the horizontal plane. I’m assuming this is not normal and that the tube is stiff from being old. If I bend the tube to the inverted flopped orientation, then the tube looks quite stressed and as if it would not take much more bending to cause it to crack.

Anyone have thoughts or advice on this. Anyone know where I can get a new one?

Thanks,

Squatch

Peter,
That is definitely not normal. If you have had no luck finding a replacement from Carl/Jill or Cliff Coy at Gesoco, you may try Rob Kent in the UK at rkent(at)wlacrussianeng.co.uk (rkent(at)wlacrussianeng.co.uk).

This post was mixed in with my non-Yak e-mail. The top part was cut off on the monitor and I assumed Squatch, a.k.a. "Petervs", was sorrowfully describing a personal male performance problem. Knowing the several M.D.'s on the list would likely respond with remedies for a "cracked...broken...stiff" flop tube that "hangs nicely, that sticks out straight and does not flop below the horizontal - one that is stiff from being old". Then when he wanted "a new one", I looked back and I guess he may be talking about some Yak part! My bad!
