I've picked up a few references to a "New, triangular upper engine mount fitting." I took delivery of my kit in May 2006. Has there been a redesign of the mount since then that I am not aware of?

Patrick,
I looked at your pix of the BRS-ready upper engine mount brackets. I guess my question is whether they are only intended for use if installation of a BRS chute is anticipated or do they replace the former design for 6B6-4?
BTW - Congrats on the EAA presentation. I'm at about the same point you are, getting ready to install the forward side skins.

I specified that I wanted the "BRS Brackets" when I ordered my fuselage. When I spoke with Nick & a BRS VP (at Oshkosh), Nick said that these brackets would be standard, and would also allow for builders to retrofit a BRS in the future.
So my understanding is "Yes, these brackets replace 6B6-4".
Has anyone ordered a fuselage kit in the last 6 months and received the smaller 6B6-4 mounts...?
Thanks,
Patrick

That makes three of us about ready to put the front side skins on... I'm glad to see others asking the same questions in the same areas I am.
PS I picked up the fuselage kit in Late Dec of 07 and I received the new style BRS mount.

I just picked up my kit last week and it had the new mount and I did not say I wanted BRS so it must be standard now.

I did not order a complete kit but I did order the 6B6-4 brackets. I received the new triangular mounts.

Looking at Scott's installation which doesn't use the Zenith BRS brackets it doesn't look like it would be to bad.

Has anyone received the REAR brackets in addition to the front ones...?
I only got the front ones.

I believe the rest of the parts would come from BRS. The bridle clamps are a
standard BRS part. The "L"s at the back look like what is shown in the older
601XL chute instructions from BRS and also like the parts Scott Laughlin
received directly from BRS and used in his installation.

I essentially had to do this on my QBK. As received it had the second
generation motor mount brackets (with the integrated canopy pivot
attachment). But the main bolt holes were misaligned from the holes in the
actual firewall (off by an eighth of an inch). Zenith sent me the newer
triangular as replacements.
I had three problems in the change-over:
1. On the brackets the angle between the firewall and the side that aligns
with the longerons didn't match the actual angle between my firewall and
upper longeron. I had to trim the side of the bracket so it didn't overhang
the longeron.
2. I had to trim off the upper corner of the brackets to fit the inside
curve of the firewall's flange.
3. The brackets are longer and require an extra bolt through the longerons
to the rear.
