Kolb guys, and wanna-be Kolb guys,
I had a chat with my good buddy that has been building a beautiful Firestar. He's a retired corporate pilot, and doesn't do email, therefore he is not a member of the Kolb-list. It is virtually finished, and has been registered ESLA. As far as I know, all the paperwork and registration is completed.
The airplane is of exceptional quality. It is the style that has no nosecone/windscreen.
The reason he is contemplating selling it is because of all the crap he's had to go through from that loser that makes the Hexadyne engine. He has been waiting for more than a month for a replacement ECU computer for this brand new engine. Oh, BTW, THIS engine is a replacement for a previous model Hexadyne that he was having problems with. These engines were brand new, straight from the Hexadyne owner. Crap product, and even worse, crap company. (I told him he should have bought an HKS, he says "yeah, I know"!)
If he can get the new engine computer anytime soon, it may very well be a great flying plane, but as of this moment, it has never lifted off the ground. I have seen him do some fast taxi-ing, raising the tailwheel, and all that kind of stuff. 60 HP on a Firestar makes for a brisk performer!!
Anyway, he says he's getting quite despondent about the whole plane! So, if you know anyone looking for a completely fully built, fully registered, awesome plane, send me an email and I'll check with him to see if he's finally made the commitment to get rid of it.
To give you an idea of the kind of dedication this guy gave his Firestar, he bought an $8000 custom-made aluminum enclosed trailer to haul it in.
Like I said, it isn't officially for sale, yet, but if he knew there was someone interested in taking it off his hands, he may just give up on it.
