Just for what it's worth, if you're building, consider making a ballast
box and installing it in the tail aft of the battery. With an IO-240B for
example you will end up on the hairy edge of the forward balance
limit if you don't add ballast. I put 15 lb.'s in mine and got it well inside
the envelope and it handles very nicely.

Thought of this because I'm just closing the fueslage on my CH801
project and have been thinking about making an accessible box in it
just in case I need it. With the Series 5 I added ballast via the battery
access panel and it was a real chore to work through that little opening.
Would have been much nicer before I fabric'd it.

Also with an IO240 and I agree. Build a little tool box for wrenches and such. I have 8 pounds of lead in a baby wipe canister. Fortunately, I made a larger battery door and have better access than most.

Actually I need to make a correction, I added 10 NOT 15 pounds of ballast.

Another thing is access to the trim actuator. The brushes in them gunk up,
causing intermittent trim problems. So good to be able to get at the bolts
so you can take it out to clean it every couple years.

When I did my rebuild, I needed to add weight to the tail to offset the weight from the added nose wheel. I moved the battery to the tail section and welded in a plate with two upright bolts for holding ballast. I used lead weights for ballast with two holes drilled through them which line up with the two upright bolts. Wing nuts hold the lead ballast tightly in place. Note the open access under the horizontal stabilizer in the attached photo. We built a sheet metal plate to cover the access.
