Greetings all, I am 9 months into buildiing a 701 and am currently working on my figrst wing. I am using the homebuilthelp video series as guidance and there is a section on adding optional wing stiffeners. Does anyone have any advise on doing this? That is a) will I wish I'd added them if I didn't, or b) will I wish I didn't add them, if I did?

Yes, you will be sorry if you don't add the wing stiffeners and bracing on the sides too. If you don't the sides they will oil can, especially while sitting on the runway while warming up with a quartering wind. Fellow pilots will give you a hard time about it as they can see and hear it. I added my side bracing later and will say, it's not easy getting in there to do it latter.
I don't care how careful you are skinning the wings with the 16thousands aluminum it will buckle some between the normal ribs while sitting sitting on the runway, especially with the sun shining on them. I put an L angle lengthwise on the top and bottom of the ribs in my wings midway between the main and rear spar and it works well. I called Nick H. and he said that is fine. It was much easier that way as I didn't have to contour the L angles to the curvature of the wing. Many planes have something similar and it is normally called a hat section. Titan aircraft do it that way.

Buy the Canyon Surfing DVD, when you watch it you can hear the oil canning. And there are wing cam shots of the fuselage, you can see it beating.

I fitted the (false ribs) "L"s between each rib, top and bottom skin. Forming the Top skin "L"s to the Top skin is kid stuff. You only have to be close with the bend. Even when you put cleco's in you will see that it pulls in to fit the airfoil shape....Geoff
