If this was originally for a HACman system, would it be wise to look into getting one of those systems? The regular vent lines seem pretty basic, are they just something that you field fabricate? If so, does anybody know the dimensions; length, hole pattern/diameters, etc?

Ryan,

You could just replace the original vents with expensive Rotax parts or make your own from some of that skinny tubing that's currently hanging there. The HACman system is a great mod, in my opinion. It's cheap, easy to install and allows you to control mixture in-flight, adjust EGT's to more optimal levels at any power setting. Might require some machining on one of your carbs.

Thanks, I'll have to go back to the airport tonight and check if one of my carbs has the tapped hole for the fitting.

Is it the normal Kitfox set-up to have the regular vent tubes installed? Any known issues with the vent tube being right above the exhaust?

I think the short carb vent tubes with tiny vent holes over the exhaust is pretty much a stock 582 installation on the Kitfox. Only trouble I've heard from this is that some airworthiness inspectors don't like it. No fires reported that I know of.

...It's been a long time since I ran Rotax two strokes...but...If memory serves... there are 4 holes in each carburetor vent line (plugs in each side of the Bing Carb). The vent holes are suppose to equal or exceed the diameter of the carb vent outlet.

The stock vent lines were always dirty and soiled other things when they dripped. This was my solution: At the auto parts store I found a plastic manifold (this would be like a "T" only it had more teats on it) that had 4 1/8" nipples and a larger one...I'm thinking it was 5/16 or 3/8". I plumbed all four vents into this manifold and then ran the larger line down out of the way so when it dripped it would not be an issue. All lines must NOT have any dependent loops. In other words...everything must flow downhill.
