I"ve been lurking the site a while and have decided to step in and see if you Kolbers will help with a question. Just one for now.If I wish to install a remote antenna where might a good location be on a FS II?
I'll offer ya'll some background. After registration while taxi testing/familiarization with the tail off the ground I took a gust and was flying. I have had it balloon before. This time just a few more R's and I'm now leaving 94C down and behind.
Many Kolb drivers might understand the distraction of open cockpit flight in a FS II. Besides keeping the airspeed up and wings level I was very distracted by my anal sphincter and harness both of which I could not make tight enough. So after second approach I did the ultimate no-no. I stalled it on. This insult to my dream machine caused it to fail the left axle fitting (older whimpy mod.)which caused a nose breaking maneuver which bent front half of cage.
I am now about to spray the first coat of Poly Brush on repaired cage and I thought the belly could be a possible location for future remote. So , should I put couple of plastic reinforcement rings on or concentrate on sphincter exercises? I enjoy building but I want to be a pilot again.

Hi Dick....I have mine mounted right out the bottom of the cage, like about under my knees and it works fine.I got the antenna from Aircraft Spruce it is a AV-534L and I am using a Icom A-22 radio. It works great.

Dick,
Have my antenna underneath the front nose cone on my FireFly and it
performs well. Advantage of that location is that the floor pan acts as
a ground plane for the antenna. Made my antenna out of a car antenna I
picked up from Advance Auto for $8 and made an insulator out of a block
of nylon. It's attached to my little Icom A5 and is amazing. You need
to cut the antenna to 23 inches long for our frequencies. Also need to
put a bend in it the keep it from rubbing the ground. Have a flying
buddy that did the same and we have the best reception in our group of
flyer's!
Hope this helps,
Terry - FireFly #95

Hi Richard,
I installed my antenna on the top of the nose cone. I tied a string on top of the antenna so when I land out in the boonies I know where the wind is coming from before taking off.
