If you are happy with just 100LL stop here. You won't like where this is going.

This effects us all even in other countries because one tends to follow the other at some point.
If you are tired of someone saying we can't have 91 octane, read on. It's time to pick a side and take 5 minutes to email. Our lives as people are good because someone didn't just say ok. Some took the time to make change and made it better for all of us. If we choose to sit on the sideline and just go along then we deserve what we get. I would implore all to take a minute and email these two people and any other fuel administrator in other companies. I will post on as many aviation websites as possible and I would you all to pick a side and stand up to be heard and maybe, just maybe we might effect change. I for one don't want to roll over. You are about to read a bulletin about the use of Chevron ground fuel verses aviation fuel. Then I have a response.

Don't sit back and pick my memo apart, use that time to write your own and be heard. Post this on all your aviation websites. Let them hear a nation wide voice.

Send your emails to:

LIMG(at)chevron.com
kayalbitz(at)chevron.com

or any other fuel company administrator.

Roger,

While it is hard to argue with any of the points in either the Chevron letter or your response the point of their producing it protection from liability. Protecting the company and the stockholders is not only their right but their responsibility.

If you really want things like this to stop being necessary I suggest you write your state and federal congress critters and demand tort reform.

I do at least two or three times a year.

Hi Gig,

Those letters have been sent, too.

Every website I posted on and I sent the letters to Flight Design have people speaking up in support. I have received dozens of emails in support and that is just since last night.

One voice will dye, but thousands may be heard.

Everyone,
Don't sit ideally and complain. 1-2 minutes of your time is all anyone is asking. It's your future and your time to offer your hand in a worthwhile effort to help shape it. Do it for yourself if not for anyone else.
sent, too.

NIce letter however it won't do much. WHat she states is a liability protecting stance, against some dipshit that wants to blame some potential accident on the fact they used Chevron Mogas. Just CYA. SHe is in fact correct on the risks of using MOGAS. Nothing we all do not know however. Benifits ecceed the risks at this point. The rebuttle should be the chevron, " Make more 100 LL or lead substitute gas and lower your FUel charges to Aviation.

Still trying to figure out what your point is, though I appreciate the vigilance.

Roger,
I see absolutely nothing wrong with what she has written. It falls in line exactly with what I was taught 10 years ago when in the ground schooling phase of pilot training. Avgas has always been made using stricter standards than mogas. I'm not in favor of requiring the gas i put in my car to be made with the same high (and costly) standards used in the production of aviation fuel. I think it's a good idea that these companies from time to time reminder pilots that if they choose to use mogas, they should no the risks.

Hi Dan,

Most pilots are educated to the problems with 91 octane and ethanol. Many Mfgs. recommend that you use 91 over the 100LL because lead is more damaging to engines. I believe the EPA has a ruling that 100LL suppliers have to have a new fuel by 2010 because of the lead you breath and exhaust. ground based fuel has been in aviation use since the Wright Brother's flew. It is a huge part of the aviation community today. there are 280 aircraft at my field and over half can use 91 and they signed a petition saying so. There is a new fuel being tested. There is a new no lead 100 fuel being tested.

Swift Renewable Fuels
Welcome to the next generation of aviation fuels.
In fact, this is the introduction of the first and only completely renewable fuel. The current fuel used in piston fired aircraft is 100 Low Lead (100LL). The United States and Europe have banned the use of 100LL due to tetraethyl lead which is needed to bring the octane number to 100. There currently is a moratorium on this ban until 2010. Swift has this solution.

Unlike the current process of refining crude oil to arrive at a final fuel, we synthetically create hydrocarbons from bio-mass. This creation method is superior to the existing refining method because we maintain control over the entire process giving us the flexibility to meet or exceed current ASTM specifications.
The advantages of Swift Bio-Synthetic Fuel are:

Seamless replacement of 100LL (no engine modifications)

15-25% increase in range over 100LL (no oxygenates)

20% drop in pollutants over the current 100LL fuel

15% more volumetric energy than 100LL

No need for stabilizers or additives

Just to be clear. When we say 91 octane, its autogas that we are talking about and not the old 91/96 avgas, am I right? From my scant knowledge, I understand that the refinery standards for all fuels are excellent for all products. Quality is all good. Its the transportation and delivery standards that may vary. My recent post retirement gig involved conducting safety and compliance inspections for the aviation department of a major oil company. A biggie at my visits involved the fuel installations. To be sure, they only use turbine fuel, but procedures are basically the same. Check the filters, check the procedures manual, check the pipes, check the people, blah, blah. I spent half a day on fuel. The bottom line is that aviation fuel installations have way good filters and somebody is always responsible for checking for water and contamination on a daily basis and they keep good records for jerks like me. Aviation fuel installations all have SS pipes and valves. This is a far cry from what you find at a convenience store. Has anybody ever seen anyone there ever check for water or drain it from the tanks? Daily? Are the filters out of date? Does the air head clerk come outside to do the white bucket test and supervise delivery? All pilots in our community know how to test for alcohol by now. Many own that cool filter/funnel that you buy at the boat store or ACS. Even a fuel nerd like myself can ensure that good fuel can be obtained that will feed an old Lyc that was TC'd in 1940.
