Hi folks,

A couple of points of clarification:

When I cut my windows and windshield, I left the plastic from the factory intact. I just peeled back the edges and inch or two, then used a knife sideways to cut peeled back portion. I then used electrical tape to the edge of the window. I filled any gaps between the plastic and the electrical tape with blue tape.

I drilled holes in the canopy, NOT the windows themselves. I didn’t want to risk cracking the window. There are many sizes of fender washers, do a couple of test fits to make sure you have some that are big enough. I had a couple of places that required a larger washer to reach the window. When you are done, many of the washers will have WELD-ON on them. In my original post, I didn’t mention that when peeling and replacing clecos and washers, we sometimes flipped them over so that the weld-on that was on the washer didn’t get onto the window.  When finished, many of the washers will have left over weld-on on them.  These are cheap and can be thrown away if they are beyond salvage.

I sanded the edges and portion to be glued with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper. I then cleaned the edges and sanded portion with a blue Scott shop rag that was DAMP with Isopropyl alcohol. It was not wet by any means. I don’t think there was enough to soak into the Acrylic itself. I just wanted something to cut the greasy kids stuff fingerprints and the very fine dust off. I figured that any remaining dust or residual would be soaked into the weld-on, much like a filler...and thus not have much effect. I was correct. Again, use alcohol at your own risk…as there are conflicting posts. I am just telling what worked for me.

So far, so good. No crazing, but my windshield is not in yet either. Now I have another thing to worry about. ;- )  But based on my experience so far…I am not anticipating any problems.

Chao!
Pete

Excellent post. On the alcohol bit - what do you think of using mild detergent instead of alcohol to clean up the edges just before applying the glue?
