Absolutely not. It will contaminate the edge and interfere with the bond.
IMHO wear gloves so as to not get body oils on the edge and sand with 120
grit paper. Wipe with slight amount of solvent of your choice. (No matter
what I mention here someone will take exception) Rubbing Alcohol or Acetone
in small amounts are my choice. AS always protect the acrylic everywhere
except the working edge. Electrical tape works well as it is impervious to
solvent and does not sand away during prep.

I think a bit of dish soap and clear water rinse would get exactly that same result. I was just too lazy to walk into the house. …that and water won’t be gone in seconds, when alcohol will. I think either will be just fine.
