Hi Kevin;
You mentioned the Kitsap School program in a recent email. What happened to it? I was following it prior to George Steed heading to Italy for a few years. He was very helpful to me with the program I am working on for my local HS.

Sorry to hear about the end of the program, it was a very good idea. Still, the kids who participated are much better off for the experience. I doubt that many kids get to help build something of this magnitude. Please tell everyone involved that I applaud there efforts and vision.
Kevin

John,
That was me that made the post about the CKJH 701.
I work on it on & off with 2-3 other volunteers.
One of whom is Steve Smith who used to be the shop teacher.
George moved to Italy for a few years, His wife was transferred there by the Navy.
The School program was ditched by the school because they got a new principle and a new shop teacher. Both of whom were some how threatened by the project.
We tried to bring in an additional teacher who was willing to support it, but because the school never offered the program to the kids none of them signed up to take it. So with out the kids to participate there was no funding to pay the willing teacher.
One of the students actually told me that the new shop teacher had told his class that "they were not to touch the airplane because the metal causes cancer". I think he was referring to the Fiberglass cowling the kids were making.
Basically the new faculty wasn't into it so they swept it under.
I have no idea how these people get into the school system?
My Wife has formed a new non-profit for girls called Our Beauty Within.
It is an organization that sponsors programs for girls that build positive self esteem and positive body image in young girls.
We hope to run a similar program for the girls and build a 601.
We hope to use the Rosy Riveter theme.

So what happened to the airframe?
Scrapped, sold or sitting outside abandoned at the school?
All of the participants will have a lifetime positive memory from this and who knows what road in the sky that they will follow because of it in the future

Well, the 701 airframe is down at the Bremerton airport and has the wings and engine mounted to it.
The 601 airframe is next to it on the ground awaiting us to move it to the hanger at Apex.
The 601 is the airplane we hope to run the girls program with.

Once my C-150 is running properly I'll have to swing by and take a look. Maybe during lunch time so I can get some fish & chips too!

Sorry this is my mix up, I must have replied to the wrong email? It is too bad though, it was a very cool and educational idea. I wish I had built airplane parts in shop.. instead of a birdhouse, a candy dish ( I wonder what happened to that) and a gate latch and a bunch of other stuff I don't even remember.
