Has anyone installed a cowl flap on an 801?

I had real problem with cooling when I put N801BW on floats. I finally
solved the problem by opening up the bottom of the cowl to let air out. Now
when it is cool outside I can't keep my cylinder head temps up where they
should be.

I am looking for a simple way to install a cowl flap.

Hello Bill,

Probably in the Bingelis books you can find something... I can remember reading about a engine cowl system that was kind of automatic, He used aircooling termostats from the VW car cooling system, was very clever because when the engine heated, the coils off course heated, pushing open the cowl flaps and letting air out. Probably there are some more examples...
I have all the Bingelis books, but at my factory, so probably monday afternoon I can look at them.
Great colection of books to have. They are from EAA.

I wonder if the simplest thing might be to simply block off the lower opening (that you added) at certain temperatures. Just something you would do before takeoff, depending upon temperature.
