The reason for the hole is to let some coolant leak by when it is too cold to open. If

the T-stat is some distance away from the rapidly heating coolant in the engine, it

might not start opening soon enough because the coolant is still cold near the T-stat.

I think the hole size needed is more like 3/32". You only need to let it leak a few

ounces to get warm coolant up to it.

Well NAPA has no cross-reference for that thermostat (OMC 3853799), and I can't find specs for the Rotax-specific temperature. And no joke, that Part is $138 plus S/H from California Power and Lockwood...

hmmm. I will check tomorrow with my local napa where I got mine and see if they have changed numbers.. I will let you know.
