Hi GroupI have a Ilec Vario and total energy probe.I want to mount my total energy probe before I bond on top fuse.Idea was to mount it on vertical fin.Anyone have any real world experience with a total energy probe mounted on vertical fin?Did you install level with port sill? Or mount at an angle to give it more height? What angle? Bout how high is the tip compared with rudder cap?Did you mount with bent part of probe tip pointing up, or down?Perhaps you mounted in another location than vertical fin?Any pics would be greatly appreciated.Ron Parigoris [quote][b]

I have not yet flown with it, but mounted my TE probe in the fertical
fin (in the "cap" actually), level with the port sill, with the tip
pointing down. The tail strobe is just behind/above it, providing an
access hole for the hose connection.
To me this appeared to be the best location (and the hardest to get at
afterwards if not planned already during the built).
I can provide some pictures if you care.

Hi Ron,
We installed a Borgelt vario with a TE probe about a year ago, near the top of the fin. When building the plane (7-8 years ago) we left some PVC pipe installed in the fin to act as conduit for the probe tubing run to the cockpit, which allowed us to mount the probe later on by simply drilling a hole in the fin leading edge. We mounted the probe to a piece of sheet aluminum and screwed that to two anchor nuts inside the fin. The aluminum mount was bent to the shape of the fin leading edge. We have the probe base pointing straight forward (approximately level with the port sill) with the bent part of the probe pointing downward.
The probe seems to work fine at this location.
I hope this helps, I don't have pictures at this time.
regards,
Terry Seaver
