My problem is similar, but not the same.
The bungee cord is not under much tension, but full extension should not cause any banging on the steering stops. I think a small spacer between the stop plate and the bearing is still the solution in my case.

Thanks,
John Marzulli

You are correct Curt.  I found that using the kit supplied parts, I was concerned that the top strut cover, 7L1-5J, would be coming down on the top support possibly bending or breaking the bolts that hold it in place.  My solution was to add a couple of .125 spacers to raise the top plate about an 1/8 of an inch above the top plate.

And yes, later I did put longer bolts through the bottom bracket with proper thread extensions showing.  I think somewhere on my DVD there are additional pictures that show the longer bolts.

Subject: Spacer between 7F8-4 and 7F8-6? (was CH701 front lower bearing plate (7F8-4) location?)

Craig,

It looks like George put a spacer between the Rear Lower Bearing (7F8-4) and the Nose Gear Stops (7F8-6).  I’m guessing that this was so the Nose Gear Strut Assembly (7L1-1J) doesn’t hit the stops before 7L1-1J rides in 7F8-6.  I made my own 7L1-1J and have the same issue.  I figured I made 7L1-1J about 1mm too long (not much).  I think John Marzulli has the same issue with his kit.  I’m trying to decide if (a) I leave it alone, or (b) I re-make 7F8-8 a little higher, or (c) I put a spacer under 7L1-5J, or (d) I do what George did.

Have other builders run into this?

Curt
