John,
Actually, the interference (banging) is when the front gear is fully retracted as when in flight. What I was talking about was putting in a spacer to make the stop plate (7L1-5J) higher. You are talking about making 7L1-5J lower in order to pre-load the bungee – correct? If you do that, the Nose Gear Strut Assembly (7L1-1J) is going to be held up in flight by the Stop Plate (7L1-5J) which will hit (i.e. rest on) the Upper Channel, top support (7F7-1SP). As George was saying, you might bend 7F7-1SP or break it loose.
