List,
i have a 601XL with Facet pump mounted 3" above the bottom of the firewall ( engine side ). it is on the passenger side opposite the exhaust pipe. On hot days after flying the Facet pump will sometimes cavitate and not develop much pressure ( about 1/2 psi ). the Jabiru 3300 engine always starts quickly every time and i have had no in flight fluctuations. i use it like the Piper Cherokee boost pump on take off and landing.
we have 2 601 XL's on the field and we can tell who is running wheel pants and who isn't. we calculate 5 to 7 MPH at same power settings. about 5 at 22" MP and 7 at 25".

Hello I built a 601 HDS with a EA81 Subaru. Have been flying it for over 5 years. I used to have the facet fuel pumps connected in parallel mounted on the firewall. I use a pressure switch to warn of low fuel pressure. On hot days I would see the pressure light come on at appox 1-2 psi. This would also happed when flying with less than full throttle. Never had the engine quit but sure makes you nervous. Since then I moved the pumps off the firewall and into the cabin. I know a lot of you don’t like fuel in the cabin area but it has been done for years. I plumed it with hard lines and fittings. The system works much better.
With my Subaru I can routinely see 120 mph cruise at about 5 gph. With the right conditions I have seen 130 mph verified with GPS average. I have wheel pants and have never flown it without.
