Anyone built a trailer for the 601xl including a spot for both wings [open NOT enclosed trailer] and keeping it Hwy legal [under 2.4m wide].I'm looking at modifying a 5m boat trailer by putting the tail towards the front and the main wheels just aft of the trailer wheels but wider.Cheers

I did a design for my 4' x 8' trailer for the fuselage alone. That doesn't sound like it would work for you, but I'd be glad to share the drawings with you if you want.

My main comment is about placing the airplane's wheels aft of the trailer's wheels. That is going to produce an uplift at the trailer hitch, which is not a good situation. It would be much better to put the airplane's wheels forward of the trailer's wheels to ensure that there will be positive load on the hitch.

				Hi Alan,
The attached image was one I saved back because it was a well done
construct for the tail dragger 601. For a tri gear, this would be a bit
 different, but doable.

-- | It's the old weight and balance coming in to play here and having the wheels aft would be the why to go but the track would be to wide [max width 8' or 2.4m above this would need Police escorts with flashing lights, route feasibility study and permits].With the boat trailer there is properly 100 + kg forward of the axle[and it's 4m long with the hitch, winch and jockey wheel support right at the end of the lever arm] so I'm hoping this will counter act the a/c weight.I'm still trying to figure out the best way to support the main wheels and how to make the ramps as I do like the way it's done in the above pics Cheers

Here's a Kitfox trailer I built. The back bar on the trailer swings open,
and act as a bumper so to speak, for curious tailgaters. Not shown
 are the loading ramps.

My friend rented a snow-mobile trailer to get his fuselage from this
house to the hanger. It was just wide enough to do the trick. (and cheap).

It's all about weight, and balance. Even on a trailer. You gotta do a little
bit of math and calculate the moments. You want to end up with about
100 lb.s on the tongue. Just putting the wheel's ... way back .. might work
but it's not really the best way.

It's not hard to do, just need learn to do some simple math, and get a
spreadsheet and presto, instant trailer config.

 Regards,
 Jeff

Jeff Hays | The section rear of the axle is what I'm working out now and the above pic looks like it would work for me as well. With the CofC of the 601xl just fwd of the main wheels and by putting them as close to the trailer wheels as possible, I should be in the ball park with the W/B. Thanks Everyone for your input

Actually I have built several trailers, I always use the torsion axles and
like them a lot. One thing I was thinking is that you could make the trailer
with relocatable axle mounts and then simply adjust the axle location
fore and aft to get the tongue weight you want. It would be simple to
put the plane on the trailer, and then using a set of jackstands play with
them under different locations on the frame in order to find the optimum
 location for the axles.

One thing I have learned from making trailers, is that you rarely use
something like an airplane trailer very much. So it is good to build it
such that you can reconfigure it for something else later. The Kitfox
trailer I built, I used exactly once. Then I sold it. I next made a utility
trailer, but made it so that the tongue can be replaced (longer or shorter)
and the axle can be moved. This way can reconfigure it for a lot of things
like hauling wings, or furniture, etc.

By the way the Kitfox trailer took me three weekends of work with a
chop saw, a mig welder, and an angle grinder for tools and about $500
 in materials.

 Regards,
 Jeff

Here's another small trailer I made, it became a micro camper with a
removable shell that could be used as a utility/motorcycle trailer:
