If you have the big "Crowder" spinner on your CJ, strongly recommend you immediately remove the spinner and inspect the bulk head at the prop dome for cracks. JB

Just checked my Crowder spinner and bulkhead. Bulkhead is OK, maybe because I made up a 3/16" thick by 6-1/4" SS mounting plate that backs it up. The spinner itself will crack from time to time, around the edges of the outside shell. So far I have never seen a crack on the inside shell. At one time I had the prop and spnner assembly balanced to .15 IPS but each time you remove and replace for maintainance, the balance changes a little.
I still have that big spinner project on the back burner. Lately some friends with homebuilts have helped turn up the heat a little. What I'd like to do is build a 20" dia. spinner using spun aluminum bulkheads and a composite shell. So far the problem is finding a lathe big enough and cheap enough to do the job.

Craig:
The spinner could be one of the best bang for the buck speed mods for a CJ. If you had the specs for the machined aluminum, there is a company in Australia that makes spinner for other aircraft. I contacted them last year and they were not interested in making the backing plate but could make the spinner.
Contact me off list if you want the name of the company, etc.
