Hi Paul
Thanks for your response. But I double checked
the AN Bolt Torque chart and I still come up with
60 to 85 Ft. Lbs. for AN 5 Nuts in shear and 100 to 140
Ft. Lbs In tension. It doesn't make any sense to me
either. It seems way to tight. Where are our engineers.
Regards
Mike Lord

Michael,

Check you Zenith construction standards CS #407.

100-140 for the AN365 nuts and 60-85 for the AN316 nuts for AN5 bolts.

Both are inch-pounds

Ref AC43.13-1B "Acceptable Methods, Techniques, and Practices AIRCRAFT INSPECTION, REPAIR & ALTERATIONS".,
PAGE 7-9

Table 7-1 "Recommended torque values (inch-pounds)"

FOR 5/16-24 BOLT
100-140 WITH TENSION TYPE NUTS
AND 60-80 WITH SHEAR TYPE NUTS.

Again, see that the values are in inch-pounds.
