. Oh, my plans didn't specify what filter to use,>>

Hi Larry,

neither did mine. I used the same type of filter I used on my Thruster and then on my Challenger, now on the Kolb.. It works, it is simple. A glass tube with the fuel going in one end and out of the other. It comes to pieces with a spanner. You can see if there is muck in it. Why change it? Fit another one. Why?.

It is not that we are not allowed to change things, not even the number of sheets of toilet paper, we can. Not with the ease of your system I agree. It is just that Kolbs designed a plane with certain characteristics. Safety, dependability, ease of maintenance, etc., They have more experience with the plane and its foibles and needs than almost any one Kolb pilot. Then along comes a pilot who may or may not know what he is doing and `improves` it. According to the posts on this list usually with the cheapest bit of kit he can get . He will change the oil which is recommended by the maker for something cheaper, usually automotive oil, change the make of the plugs. Change the size of the fuel tank without doing a weight and balance. From the posts here some pilots don`t know where the c of g is, or where it should be. That is frightening.
If John H says that he has changed something on his plane 500 hours ago and so and so is the result then we could all make a judgement on it. Unfortunately there seem to be some on the list who just change things on a whim for very little reason apart from the fact that they can.
I remember the airplane designers creed. `Add lightness and simplify` Thats good enough for me.

Cheers

Pat
