I know this isn’t in a lot of detail, but here is an e-mail I just got from my dad about a flight from FL to MI and back. He runs high and runs lean of peak. Everything we have heard tells us that if you are under 55-75% power, running LOP won’t hurt the engine. It slows you down a little bit, but saves a lot on fuel, and can save time if it saves a fuel stop. Anyway, here is the report from him.
By the way: I flew with Mincaye and Menewa and books and bags from Dunnellon non-stop to the far side of Grand Rapis in six hours and 20 minutes and had 10 gallons of fuel left when I got there.
Yesterday, we spoke in a church with multiple services in Flint Michigan, about an hour or a little more (driving) north of Detroit. After the second service they had pizza brought in and we visited until three PM. Then they took us by the motel to change and pack and then to the airport to fuel and pack. We took off just before four PM. This time we had a little tail wind instead of the little headwind we had going up. We were at the fuel pumps at X35 before 9:00 and I would guess I have about 20 gallons left.
That is really sweet.
Do not archive.
