Oh, Doc you forget the AC130! I just don't see a squadron of F-16s or F-18s for that matter, having the staying power AND fire power of one AC130. I mean a rag head must not sleep at night hearing those out-of-sink props invisible out there somewhere in darkness, knowing that Spooky be there ALL NIGHT LONG! Hmmm! Hmmm! Hmmmm!

Russ,
I’m 59 years old entering my last year of military (ANG) service and am still flying the F-16. There are things to be said about comfort and riding but when it comes to shear fun with what’s left of my hair on fire the venerable ol 130 is just not going to cut it! There are fighters and then there are targets. The 130 is a target. When it comes to the fight, I’ll take 4 X 4 gun any day with the ability to shoot back not throughing trash out to the back. As for comfort, the Viper is strapped on like your favorite pair of driving gloves. You strap her on as an extension of yourself not walk up the steps/ramp into a cavern. With that 30 degree tilt seat, I’m quite comfortable in that little cocoon with the panoramic view not having to ID my foe by looking out at the world through a portal. Although a nimble aircraft, the 130 will shuck her wings at 9 Gs everytime!
