I'm a lurker/n00b who is transitioning to active shopper for a CJ-6.

What's the best source for 'chutes? I've searched the web and prices seem to vary as much as $1,000 for the same 'chute (something like a Softie seat 'chute).

Lots of good information at Allen's site: http://www.silverparachutes.com/

Pete,

I ordered my chute from Strong at the Oshkosh gathering and have been
very happy. They are familiar with the CJ-6A and have one that fits
perfectly. Given them a call and they'll walk you through the various
options available. Take a look at:

www.strongparachutes.com/pages/pc_squadron_warbird.php

This is one item where you do not want to cut corners. I'm sure that
others on the list will have suggestions as well.

My parachute rigger seems to always have a source for used rigs. He's a good guy and a fellow skydiver. Be careful as some manufacturers have defined life spans on their seat rigs. I have two 10 year old seat packs that look like new but cannot be legally repacked.

Here is his contact info:

Parachute Shop as well. Got a great price on two seat pack softies with acro harness.

I suggest you try on as many chute types as you can and think about what configuration your a/c seat will be in (back cushion vs no back cushion etc.) The CJ is not that comfy to begin with and a crappy chute makes it downright agonizing.

funny thing....I just looked for the web site for this chute and it has a picture of my kid wearing it!

We both love this setup

Just got the following email. I am not associated with these guys nor can I vouch for their work:

2 Identical SOFTIE SEATPACKS, S/N 6642/4-SA, mfg. 5/02 by Para-Phernalia. The harness/container and trim are royal blue. It comes with a red aerobatic harness. There is no parachute in this container at this time. I will install a new 24' Preserve 1C canopy, when purchased. It is rated at 150 KIAS with up to 220 lbs. It does not come with a carry bag, which I recommend purchasing. I also suggest ordering a 1" or 2" removable cross country comfort pad to sit on. This harness/container is in good condition. It shows very little dirt or wear. I will also include a free repack with this parachute. The retail price of a new seatpack with a carry bag and comfort pad would be over $2000.00. UPS not included. This is a great buy.

Price: $975.00 each (with new canopy)

Gang,

We are a Strong Parachute dealer. I have used Softie, Butler, and Strong and am most impressed with the comfort, fit, quality, available options and value of the Strong chutes.
