Richard, I agree with much of what you said, and any list without you (especially), and the other sellers is incomplete, and I'm sure not intentional. Lord knows you've had stuff we've needed that no one over here had. Even so, I think even with everyone mentioned, it's unlikely to be viewed (by the likes of us) as spam, assuming it's kept within sensible boundaries. If you have something new, I want to know about it. And of course, if someone's looking for something, users should pipe up and say where it can be found (which is what happens now). Things that seem like repetitive advertising, not so much. It's not that I think a separate commercial list is such a bad idea, but I suspect that everyone would subscribe to both anyway, and it would look the same in your inbox. If the commercial one became obnoxious, it would be unsubscribed by everyone and we would miss out on the stuff we wanted to actually know about. I think a combination of taste and a little tolerance would do it. Just my sixpence.

Clearly the Yak list is a US-based list, and he of course is writing from the US.
However there are more Western Yaks outside the US, than there are inside. (I.e. excluding all the ones in Russia etc).
Also I suspect that there are more people involved in this business, simply because there are more countries and the business becomes more spread out.
In addition we are in an increasingly international world, and certainly for Yaks, this whole issue of support and spare parts etc will undoubtedly become a lot more difficult in the future. For this reason alone, I have no doubt that individuals will develop specific specialities, and will be serving the Yak community on a world-wide basis rather than a specifically national one.
I have started this thread, since I had always understood that the Yak List was definitively NOT commercial and no commercial postings were allowed. This seemed to me perfectly reasonable, although I run a commercial business in the Yak world - indeed have sold more Yaks and more engines than anyone.
The only reason that I mentioned it at the beginning was that a number of organisations seem to be listing purely commercial messages. My feeling was that there is probably a need for such a thing, but why not organise it in a way that EITHER there is a separate list - although people do not seem to like that, OR have listings from specifically recognised people - but that does seem to be a bit limiting.
However I am sure that there are ways of controlling this to prevent spam - or am I wrong?
