I am working on the wings of my -10 now and ordered the SafeAir AOA/Pitot, along with the pitot/static line kit. I also ordered two of the SafeAir Dynon compass mounting kits for dual EFIS units. I figured I would get all the wiring and plumbing lines run through the wings before I button them up. With the wiring and plumbing done in the left wing, I got to thinking about the wingtip magnometer mounts and the location, and am now worried that the magnometers will be close to the wingtip nutplates, my Whelen A600's and wiring, and my HID wingtip ballasts and landing/taxi lights. I am now thinking that an alternate location would be better and after searching the forum, found that a lot of folks building models other than the -10 are putting the magnometers in the empennage, either on the V/S deck or aft of the baggage bulkhead. I am inclined to do one of these locations instead of the wingtip. Any comments, suggestions, or info from other -10 builders would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have one, it's mounted on two 3/4 by .125 angle with a aluminum plate. This assembly is attached to the longerons behind the baggage bulkhead. Works fine. The magnometer only has four #20 IIRC wires so the cable is small and easy to route. Make sure you mount the units with brass screws. I used four nylon posts that I could adjust to allow the unit to be level on all axis.

I built small shelves either side of the vertical stringer behind the
center of the baggage compartment to hold my compass and AHRS. I'll
have redundant units, so there is a pair mounted to either side. I have
no experience with that location, and someone mentioned that the
changing stuff in the baggage compartment could change things for the
compass etc. I was worried about access in case of repairs. It's hard
to find anyplace devoid of things that can adversely effect these units,
so I set my stuff up on the bench and held large nuts, bolts and other
'stuff' around the mounted units (on the bench, not in the airplane) to
see how sensitive they were. My MGL units aren't that sensitive to the
hardware that I was using for the test, so I'm fairly sure that the spot
I selected is going to be OK.

Since you have two, why not leave one in the wingtip and put the other behind the battery area? Then you're covered.

I am trying to avoid any magnetic and electrical interference that the wing tip will be heavy on. I am going to call Dynon Monday for their recommendation, however I am leaning on a location aft of the baggage compartment .
