The oil cooler is a full flow as long as there is not excessive back pressure C such as the oil congealing in the cooler... Once the back pressure reaches a set point it blows open a bypass valve that sends the oil around the cooler...
As far as the order in which the oil circulates through the passages very roughly (from memory)
1. main oil gallery in right crankcase half to:
A) Main bearings C and through them in spurts to the connecting rod bearings
B) From rear main bearing to:
a] crankshaft idler gears
b] cam bearings
c]hydraulic tappets
c]push rods (spurts again)
d] rocker arms (which are at the end of a very long C tortuous path of spurts)
e] and finally the valve stems get coated from oil mist (which is why they wear like crazy)
Someone who really knows can chime in...

Hi Denis,
Thank you for the reply and for the printout. Just the thing that I needed,
The problem is on a friends 0-290 Miranda aircraft he has very hot oil temps and as he doesnt understand the problem I am trying to help. Therefore the request for information.
The engine runs well but the oil temps get to 245 degrees with in ten minuets but do not cool down much when running at 2000 RPM. ie goes down to 240 degrees.
Thanks again,
Cheers,
Jack Steele
