GAS WAR - an idea that SHOULD work.
This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one
of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It's worth your
consideration.
Join the resistance! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by
next summer and it might go higher! Want gasoline prices to come down? We
need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered
this good idea.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day"
campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just
laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves
by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a
problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that might work.
Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline
priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for
regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations
have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at
$1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS
control the marketplace... not sellers.
With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take
action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we
hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do
that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't
just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act
together to force a price war.
Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest
companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any
gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their
prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and
Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this
point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of
people.
I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten
more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x
10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group
of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three
million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million
people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed
it... THREE >>>>HUNDRED MILLION >>>>PEOPLE!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you
don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send
this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician.
But I am, so trust me on this one.)
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten
more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could
conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?
Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please
pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY
LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.
THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

BTW, I don't mind trying this, but should it begin to work even a little, it looks like a good way to get hit with a RICO suit, like the abortion protesters were a few years back. Your right to "free speech" means nothing in court these days.

I cannot understand why everyone gets upset at the marginal difference in the price of a commidity, like gasoline, that is affected by market forces but completely ignores the most expensive home budget item of all: TAXES.
Taxation - especially the income tax - is nothing more than legalized theft.
* *The average household today spends more money on taxes than they do on housing, food, clothing and gas COMBINED * *
Federal Income Tax
Social Security Tax
Medicare Tax
State Income Tax
State Unemployment Tax
Real Estate Tax
Property Tax
Sales Tax
Gasoline Tax
Hotel Tax
Airline Ticket Tax
etc...etc
The federal debt is now $8.2 TRILLION which amounts to about $24,000 for every man, woman and child in the country ( not including illegal aliens ). When GWB leaves office, that number will closer to $10 TRILLION.
13% of the current budget goes to servicing the current debt.
Medicare is now the single largest budget item in many states and the medicare system will be bankrupt even before social security.
* If you want extra gas money, stop voting for bigger government and more taxes *

I can't have much additional effect; the only thing I've done in Exxon
stations since the Valdez incident is take a leak. (Anyone can make a
mistake; good people & companies care when they make a mistake.)
Don't forget that higher prices are almost always a tax. That's been a
common technique for borrow & spend governments for a very long time &
that's exactly what is happening now.
The deficit looks bad now, but did you know that those numbers don't
include any of the money being flushed down the drain over in Iraq &
Afghanistan? The War on our Grandchildren's Financial Well Being is *off
budget*.
Don't you just love the Enron Method of government?

I'm not sure this will work. I think all the fuel we use here in Charlotte
comes from the same pipeline. Which comes from the refineries, which is
where Chevron and Mobil and others deliver their loads from the tankers.
Then all the fuel is refined and sent along the pipes to our holding
facility in south Charlotte. Gas is Gas I don't believe you can separate
the who from the what in this case. Another way to reduce our need is to
use our cars less if possible. Or allow drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
But the environmentalists don't like this idea. But Fidel Castro is doing
that right now, just 42 miles from Florida. Also remember refineries have
dwindled since 1980 we have 85% less than that date.

Not that it would work for long anyway. You might get most people to do it,
but as soon as their price drops below everyone else's price, you'd have a
stampede running to their pumps, you've saved, what, .10$ if you're lucky?
Market dynamics and mob mentality takes over. The Oil companies have us by
the short ones, and they know it. The price hike during the Katrina
disaster partially desensitized most people to $3.00/gal prices, and the oil
companies are capitalizing on that to push the prices back up into that
territory. They're not going to lower it willingly, and definitely not
without a fight.
I live in Indiana, and our gas prices fluctuate as much as .20 to .30 cents
a gallon from one day to the next. Up and down. The up is usually .02-.03
cents higher than the previous high, with the lows following suit. When the
price drops to the 'new' low, you say to yourself "Whew, that is a good buy,
it's .28 cents cheaper than yesterday." Not even considering that it might
be .10 cents higher than what you paid for it last week. Who says
psychology is not a part of big business?
Marty
I'm not a psychologist, nor do I play one on TV.
