As previously mentioned, I have been out of the country for most of this year. To save me wading through vast reams of information, can anyone tell me in a nutshell, what is the state of play regarding Mode S in the UK? From what I can find on the web it seems that we may have until 2012 to upgrade but may have to complete a form to gain exemption until that date. Am I correct?

Hi! Richard.
Since there seems to be "no takers" to your question I'm replying ......not that I can answer your query .......I believe you are correct but being quick to spend my hard earnt cash I did mine mostly because fitting it was destined to be a bloody battle so not wanting to interfere with the flying season I did it last winter only to find out that the delay had been put through. Nevertheless I do believe there are some ATC space restrictions without Mode S.and passing Amsterdam with it fitted you need to turn it off !
Having gone through the hoop I've never bothered to clutter my head with the regulations with only Mode C.!
Regards and merry Christmas to you and yours
Bob Harrison.

The latest information is here: http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=810&pagetype=90
it's on the CAA Website and outlines the requirements in UK from 1st January 2010.
