Pete

Attached is a photo of a wood dolly that I built (under construction) specifically for holding the tail and wings in my trailer. You could make a wider base with caster wheels and not clamp the fuselage tube as I did for trailer use.

Pete C

I did a search in my "PICTURES" folder and found the file that has several of the tailboom dolley photos C including a couple of the construction phase and close-ups.

If you decided to build something as elablorate as my tailboom dolley C let me know C and I'll forward the file to you.

When I was flying an early firestar and folding the wings for each flight, I built a wooden dolly that also supported the wings up high over the tail wires so I wouldn't have to fold the tail for each flight. It saved enough time to make it worthwhile. Photo attached.

The photo doesn't show this but I held the wings in place with a hose that fitted over the aileron balance tubes on one end and bungeed the other end together with a wrap of foam rubber around the boom where the wings made contact.

Pete –

For tailboom support ideas, check out George Alexander’s excellent Kolb website. He’s done a good job of collecting pictures of the various ideas from our Kolb List members. (sorry – I do not have the URL handy right now …)
