I am sorry to hear about your misfortune, Lynn, but I'd like to make sure I understood correctly: One of the two SS exhaust pipes that leave the muffler broke and felt, leaving a hole in the muffler, is that right?

That must certainly be a very badly welded exhaust system and be covered by a warantee, wouldn't it?

Cheers,
Michel

You're correct, Michel. Each pipe is fed through the muffler, then
welded on each side of the muffler, then the one side of the pipe is
closed off. The exhaust gasses enter the pipe through a bunch of holes
drilled into each pipe, inside the muffler. My pipe broke off partly
next to the weld, and partly about a quarter-inch away from the weld.
I'll be checking with the dealer regarding the warranty. I searched the
entire field for the lost pipe, but found nothing...it could have
fallen off anywhere else of course.
And yes, the hole in the muffler is one-and-one-quarter inch in
diameter, and pointed right at the lower firewall area, where my fuel
supply line enters the engine compartment from the cabin. I've already
"imagineered" a deflecting baffle to divert any future exhaust
problems, as well as a pipe support and retainer, should another pipe
break off. And by the way, the other pipe is cracked about halfway
around the pipe, right next to the weld....a normal place for such
cracks to appear, as we have all seen.
