Having been closely involved with the Smolensk factory for the last twenty years, I can confirm that there are no differences between Series 1 and Series 2 18Ts.
Having said that virtually all Series 1 aircraft went into State service in one form or another – pilot training; utility roles etc, and a lot saw pretty hard use.
Of course all Series 1 aircraft are over twenty six years old.
Conversely Series 2 aircraft were largely sold into the private market; many are low-time, and of course being younger are almost all in rather better condition.
There is of course a 3rd Series being sixty aircraft for the Russian Ministry of Transport, and these have now been delivered for pilot training. Price (of course an internal government deal) was US $600,000 per aircraft!!
