Hello all,
I have a few questions concerning a 52 that has been hangared outside and not running at all during three years.
Here are some topics on which our lituanian mechanis has raised our attention and I don't know what to think about these or what to do to correct these topics...
1 Engine cylinder No.2 Exhaust is loose;
2 Several cylinders are loosing oil from rocker covers;
3 Generator low charging 26V; (???)
What to think about the engine compression test:
1. 80/75
2. 80/72
3. 80/74
4. 80/76
5. 80/72
6. 80/70
7. 80/73
8. 80/74
9. 80/77
Hope this is not to much questions but I must admit that for some (generator and compression) I really don't know what to think.
Could anyone please help me
thanks a lot and have a good day
Kind regards
Didier

Oh my God……………. I would remove that engine immediately and in a 400HP M14PF………………………..
Just kidding. As far as Yaks go if you only have these squawks , they are so minor they are hardly worth mentioning.
The Compressions are ok. They will probably improve on the engine has been flown a bit.

Didier,
#1 - the exhaust collar and clamps can be tightened to fix this
#2 - replace the rocker cover gaskets with new gaskets - and easy fix
#3 - adjust the rheostat next to the front cockpit flap handle to read 28V at 42% or more RPM while pressing the button in on the amp/volt meter.
Compressions all look very good. Using a bore scope, it would be a good idea to look inside some of the cylinders to see how much rust has built up above the top of the piston when it is on TDC. It will be obvious. There could also be internal corrosion on the bearings which no one can see without disassembling the engine. Unless the engine was properly preserved, I would exercise caution regarding flying behind this engine without a thorough internal inspection. You may want to call Termikas and speak to their engine shop manager and get his opinion since they see many, engines. Some of which have probably been idle for 3 or more years too.
The other things to be concerned about is the pneumatic system components. Particularly the air bottles. They need to be removed, cleaned and thoroughly inspected and pressure tested. After 3 years of inactivity, you can count on corrosion inside the undercarriage actuators (3); the uplock actuators (3); the flap actuator (1); the undercarriage selectors in both cockpits; the flap selectors in both cockpits; the air start valve just in front of your left foot on the back side of the firewall; all of the check valves should be overhauled as well. All of the flexible hoses should be replaced. You will need to remove the bungee cords from the canopies. They will be dry-rotted. Many of the bolts that secure the tail sections to the airframe are probably serious rusted. The elevator trim roller should be carefully examined. The control surface fabric most likely will need replacing. Look also at the canopy glass and the rollers/bearings the canopies roll on. All the bearings on the ailerons including the inboard aileron bearings should be replaced as these will very likely be rusted/corroded. The undercarriage legs seals are probably in poor shape as well. Brake bladders might also be questionable.
These are just a few of the things that immediately come to mind. I'm sure others on the list can contribute

If I am not mistaken, to see if a cylinder needs a ring job, you take the average of the pressures and any cylinder that is more than 10% of the average needs either rings or valve seats done. If true than your average is 73.6/80 which means your lowest cylinder would need to be lower than 66/80.
Maybe you real mechanics out there can verify that?

Dennis, Jim and all the other contributors,
jesus that's a lot of job. But the good news is that the plane is still overhaulable.... (is this an americafrench word????)
I will have all the actutors overhauled and all the hoses (by Ricardas). Then I will setup tha alternator by myself (Thanks a lot Dennis) and certainly have all the bearings changed. Dennis I will need these overhaul kit for the check valves. The one you sent worked perfectly well.
The only job that looks prety difficult is the bottles inspection and overhaul.
But a thourough inspection will be done. And you are right the canopy and the bungies are really in a poor shape. This I will do also.
Aileron bearings and tail inspection also will be done.
THEN with the agreement of FLA (Andrei Gloukhov) this beautifull bird will fly again.Any advice is still very welcome.
Dennis I will come back to you soon.
Thanks a lot guys and a good evening (on this side of the world)
kind rega
