i have been searching the posts and the perils of LL have me spooked. I am planning a long trip soon. i always use auto prem.gas in my 912ul but will be forced to run one leg of the trip on LL fuel because of availability. do i have to put in additives to run through the 20gal of LL. will the full synthetic oil 10w40 handle this new fuel for this 4 hour leg with out changing oil before or after. thanks for your experienced responces. Ross.

Hi Ross,

When you use 100LL you are better off using a lead scavenger like Decalin. Aircraft Spruce has it for about $18 and you only use 1/2 oz. per 10 gals. of 100LL. It helps keep the lead soft to flow out the system weather it be the oil or the exhaust. If you are only going to use the 100LL for that short flight with full synthetic then not a big deal. If you intend to use 100LL more often then switch to semi synthetic. Have a good flight.

Ross,
I have the same situation with fuel as you. On long trips I'm forced to use
LL, but have found that if you change the oil within five hours of refilling
with hitest mogas when you get back there is no buildup of sludge at all.
