|
|
Hi everyone,
Who has followed this forum recently knows that the PH-DIY is for some
time ready to fly.
So far we have not been lucky with our test pilots. We had one very good
option in the Netherlands, but his wife didn't like the idea at all.
Ivan Shaw doesn't answer and apparently is on a cruise (and after his
return probably dealing with a huge backlog). Andy Draper is willing to
do it, but his agenda appears to be overloaded. Take the weather into
the equation, and it is almost impossible to make an appointment and
reserve a flight for him to come over.
So, we are now sitting under a bright blue sky, next to a shiny new
airplane, while other airplanes are passing over our house, unable to
fly, and not really knowing what to do now.
It is tempting to Do It Yourself, but as a low timer with no experience
in an Europa this wouldn't be the wisest thing to do, so far we managed
to resist the temptation.
Does anyone of you know a capable test pilot? It doesn't has to be an
official test pilot, but someone with good experience in Europa's and
other planes, and knowing how to conduct a first flight.
We have options here to take the initial lessons in our Europa, so what
we need is only someone with a flexible agenda who is capable and
willing to do the first flight.
Rules are easy here: As far as the government is concerned, anyone with
a valid JAR PPL is entitled to fly the PH-DIY. There are no restrictions
in time, distance or weight.
Of course we will pay for expenses and time.

What about Henk or Bart, (Roelofs) sorry about the spelling, or Rob Zeelenberg, All with lots of experience. Rob did his own first flight then let me do an "official" first for him.

Ilona & Frans,
try Dirk van O. He did with succes XRT`s maiden flight 29.4.2007 and he was my very best available choise, because he followed my building process and he had built his own Mono OO-145 and had operated it hundreds of hours. The main purpose of XRT`s maiden flight was to check that my Europa was like Europa should be. That´s why I thought it is better to have Europa-specified pilot more than any other "normal" pro not-Europa-related test pilot. After his maiden flight (everything was ok), one ordinary but pro test-pilot made necessary evalution and test flights and transited me to the tailwheel and Mono. Dirk is by the way professor of the composite techs. He is just now in Morocco, but should come back next week. If you wanna ask him, please contact me direct.
You are very wise when fighting against temptation to do it Yourself. There have been so many sad accidents because builder may think "I am the best because I know her better than anyone".
Soon you will have a pix like attached. I wish you all the luck.
Raimo from Finland OH-XRT

Don't take her up in the air though on Friday [Wink] Please say hello to Rob for me.

The latter I will do. What happens friday is up to Rob of course. We are
not going to push it, but we aren't going to delay it either. We'll just
see what happens. Most likely we will not even know ourself in advance
when we are actually going to perform the first flight...

Oh, I forgot to mention that I sent you the BS113 O-rings as well.
As I understood Rob is not available at saturday. Monday is also an
option, but you probably have to work then...
