All,
I'm trying to find out what needs to be safety wired. I'm running
a KIV-1200 with 582 C box. Right now the only things safety wired are the
prop and the gearbox fills and drains. I remember seeing race cars with
literally everything safety wired. I checked AC 43-13 and though it told me
how to safety wire, it didn't say what. (It does, though, show how to
safety AN fittings. Should I safety all fuel connections?)
Thanks,
Guy Buchanan

On my 582, I safety wire the gearbox oil drain plug, as well as the exhaust
bolts at the head, and most hose clamps.
Basically, if it vibrates, safety it. You can buy jigs to drill bolt heads
and nuts. On a Lycoming, almost every bolt is safety wired, even inside the
engine.
These motors have a lot of hose clamps. Run some wire around them, and
tighten it so that the wire runs in the screwdriver slot. This will prevent
the screw from backing out.
Try looking at it and deciding how the loss of the item would effect your
butt at 5000' (virtually everything!). If it could come out and kill the
motor, you should safety wire it.
Once again, Rotax is pretty poor at ensuring your safety. Almost nothing on
my 582 is locked down from the factory. Lycoming states that all bolts and
nuts will have a locking device. Sound advice.
Maybe someone has better direction?

Guy, make sure your check and safety wire the fuel line feed nuts to your
carbs. I had the misfortion, just after having the carbs rebuilt by a dealer
by the way, that one of the nuts backed out, luckily I was still on the
ground. The engine obviously started missing and backfired badly, the next
thing I saw was a river of fuel running down the floorboards, all in about 4
seconds. I shut down and got out of the plane as it could have gone up at
any second.
I returned about 10 minutes later, after the fuel had stopped dripping from
the floorboards and upon investigation found the gas line feed nut had
backed out of the carb.
My lucky day for sure.
Marty
