Hi Guys!

Interesting discussion!

As I understand it, some airfoils produce lift , others suck! OK!
OK! Put me in the combination camp! I'm thinking that a sailboat sailing
dead away from the wind is pure " power by Newton" and can't exceed the
speed of the wind. A well designed sailboat on a tack, however, can exceed
the speed of the wind thanks to the Bernouli induced increased speed of the
airflow across the curved part of the sail: The reduced pressure around
the curve of the sail on a tack beats the high pressure area in front of a
sail running dead away from the wind.

I think that an airplane in flight is most like a sailboat on a tack and
the "Bernouli effect" helps the " barn door effect" pump a mass of air down
and to the rear. The down component of the airflow mass must equal the
weight of the airplane or the thing wouldn't stay aloft. The rearward
component gives the airplane speed relative to the air mass. Thank you!
Newton!

That said, I know nothing about sail boats and I've forgotten most of what
I ever knew about engineering! ( Old Fart ) !!

For any one within range of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, please join us for a

Now THIS is the kind of post I wanted to break off of the Zenith list for!
Thank you, sorry but my Daughter is graduating that same day.
I like the long wing and VG idea though!

Kevin
