Hey John Wigney. I don't have your direct e-mail but Paul suggested I
talk to you on Rough River. He's out of the country right now. How
about dropping me an e-mail or call me to discuss it. I believe there
was talk about re-doing with the EAA local chapter like last year.
Lets talk.

Jeff,
I am a member of the Louisville EAA & a Europa owner. We are planning our annual Rough River fly-in the week end of Sept 11. Last year it worked out great that both groups were there at the same time. If the weather cooperates room reservations will need to be made early.
Thanks,
Chuck

Thanks Chuck,September 11th it is. I'll be looking forward to it. My only obstacles would be weather or a delay of my sons graduating army basic training, AIT, & Air born the week before. I doubt that would be an issue unless he screws up, but I doubt that... ;o)
Anyway lets all hope for good weather so we can have lots of Europas! Maybe we should start a count of intended participants.

JeffR/Chuck/potential attendees,
Though I'm reluctant to mention adverse weather w/ respect to a gathering at RR, KY and I certainly don't want to rain on anybody's parade, I'd like to raise a point for discussion about holding a Europa gathering in conjunction w/ the Louisville EAA event.
Though I always enjoy EAA fly-ins for the opportunity to see special aircraft, I'm wondering if, by holding these two events on the same weekend, we may be pushing the limits for accommodations at the lodge...(?). If I recall correctly, participation in the event last year was curtailed significantly due to weather (I did not attend.)
But perhaps, due to the proximity of Louisville to Rough River, most of the attendees for the EAA event do not opt for overnight accommodations at the resort...(?)...and my concern is misplaced.
Speaking only for myself, I can say that I really enjoyed attending the RR Europa gathering in '08, and even though weather was iffy and limited the Europas to only three, meeting and chatting w/ all those who drove in or flew commercial was indeed a pleasure...I'm also wondering what effect diluting that energy and focus on type might have.
...jus thinkin...

Jeff,
Nothing against anyone personally, but I tend to agree with Fred. If good weather prevails, which we hope it does, it could get crowded in the lodging and eating departments not to mention on the field. Of course I like ALL airplanes not just Europas. Just an opinion, I will be there regardless. Hope to fly my own Europa there this time.
20 hours and counting.....

Troy & Fred,
I understand your concern. I too would be worried about vacancy
problems. I guess we need to call to see whats available. I think
having the other chapter there could also be a positive because like
last year they put on a nice presentation from lohley aircraft
coatings so I heard. Having a larger group can attract something like
that. The best one we've had was the first year when all we did was
fly and drink beer & wine? Not at the same time by the way;o)
I will call on the dates to see what the situation looks like and
report back ASAP. Also since I missed last year due to weather it
would be nice to hear from those that we're there. How many planes and
people showed up from the Lousiville chapter and how did they respond
to our fly-in being the same week. I think I would rather be there
with other pilots & builders of planes than be there with a bunch of
boaters or golfers. Please no flaming from the boaters & golfers as I
enjoy both.
