I arrived at Oshkosh yesterday late afternoon (Friday), set up camp, and expected to start greeting arriving Vintage aircraft this morning. When I arrived yesterday I was somewhat surprised to see NO vintage aircraft already here and parked and camping in the vintage area. Guess what, there are NO arriving aircraft of any kind parked anywhere on any of the grass parking areas. It is much too wet to allow vehicles of any kind on any of the grass parking areas. So what few arriving aircraft that we have are being parked on hard surfaces for the time being - perhaps until sometime next week. Apparently this past Wednesday evening three large storms moved through the area dumping lots of rain on the Oshkosh airport. I am told that parts of Camp Scholer were under about a foot of water. In fact, in the northwest corner of the North 40ty, there is a small lake still there. I know it will probably soon dry up, but what a sight.to see all that water where many store bought aircraft, that are too new for Vintage parking, have parked in the past.
The weather is beautiful today, but not much to do - hence this report. I'll try to give additional updates as time and events allow. But now is the time to start making your final preparations for you flight to Oshkosh in your Lightning. Surely you are flying to Oshkosh. For the last two years, Bill Hubbard has been the only customer Lightning at Oshkosh and he was camping in the homebuilt camping area - both years. So show some wingman support for Bill and fly on up to OSH for this years AirVenture. You'll be glad you did. And don't forget to download and read the arrival notice.
Blue Skies,
Buz
