1) The fuel selector does "Click" it has detents that the barrel "clicks"
into. They are quite easy to dismantle if you want to look inside. This
will allow you to check the internal condition. They do get stiff as they
get old.
2) The unions may not leak as they are brass but you are better off using
some sealing compound. Araldite 420 works well, Loctite 648 (but check
this) is an options. DO NOT USE PTFE tape.
3) The rubber hose Europa now supplies is perfectly good. It does not weep
or smell in any. Jubilee clips are also OK but avoid over tightening them.
