Hello - Seatle area,
I'm purchasing Full Lotus Floats from a guy based at Arlington (AWO) WA.
Is there anyone on the list that operates out of AWO or lives in that area and is willing to verify the condition (new) or happens to know the seller (Ernie Corriveau) who has a Fergy B. in a hanger at AWO.
He seems to be a very nice guy. He prefers that the condition of the floats is verified before boxing them up to ship, also for general production to both parties.
There are escrow services that would work... so I just ask if anyone is based at/near there so that it would not be too much trouble to take a peak.
Thanks !

Richard, Arlington is about 50 miles north of me. If no one closer
volunteers, I could inspect them. I am not an expert on floats, so keep that
in mind.
Just let me know.

Don,
Thank you very much for your offer.
At current gas prices... I wouldn't want to put you out for that much travel by car - BUT... if you need an excuse to fly... maybe then.
In any case, I appreciate your offer.
- the seller is currently out of town but due back in about a week.

You might give the full lotus people a call and ask
them what to look for. While those floats handle
banging around very well, UV light is a problem for
them. Maybe full lotus can tell you how to inspect
for that. Obvioulsy make sure the internal bags don't
leak.

First
- Sorry for my misspelling of Seattle!
Next
- Kurt, Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, UV exposure eventually causes the float shell material to become brittle.
These floats are reported to be new/never installed/flown - no significant UV exposure. They've been stored in a hanger. I expect "new smell" or at least new look. Hopefully no hanger rash. I understand they're unpacked and partially inflated (rather than folded) and there should be indications of zero use.
I'm hoping a quick visual would confirm new, unpacked but unused condition.

Hi Richard,
I based at PWT, but am working with the NWEAA and WSPA, organizing a
splash-in for float planes in conjunction with the Arlington Airshow. I will
be flying to Arlington May 8 for a work party. If that is soon enough for
your needs I would be happy to take a look at the floats for you. Kurt's
suggestion to contact Lotus is an excellent idea and if you do, just forward
their inspection recommendations to me by May 7.

Joel,
Thanks for your offer.
I've checked with the seller with hopes to coordinate with your 5/8 visit at Arlington. The seller is in Nevada and has had health some problems .... It sounds like he will miss the 8th by a few days so a miss on your generous offer .... though thank you very much.
He's reiterated that the floats have not seen service or UV exposer.
I'll pursue the folks at F-L to see if they have any suggested test method. I'd say 'feel' or 'sound' would be used to judge relative stiffness. A fabric reference sample would help.... I have some 'new' fabric and may be able to obtain some 'used/aged' fabric also. I'll send samples to the seller so it will be available if/when I get lucky enough to match up a list volunteer to be my eyes and hands.
Thanks again!
Richard

Sounds like you found a good deal. If they havent
been creased too badly where folded and no critters
eating them, you probably got good ones.

hope so / hope not...
I learned that the seller is also a sailor and that we've covered alot of the same ground by air and / or sea.
He's still concerned that all is checked out and the transaction is clean.
A conciencious seller is always welcome!
The gray color - traditional and matching my plane caps it all off.

Hello again,
The seller of my future Full Lotus floats has returned to Arlington.
I've sent a swatch of 'new' float shell material to him which will be available. There is no official test of fabric strength... but comparison to 'new' should provide a good relative 'health' check. He’d prefer a neutral party have a look and I’d very much appreciate anyone that may happen to be at or near Arlington (AWO) that might be able to take a peak.

Hi Richard,
I will be at AWO this Saturday, the 20th for an NWEAA meeting. If your
seller could meet me at the EAA hanger near the ultralight area around noon
I could take a look at the float for you.

Malcolm,
The hold up is on the sellers side - he wants the deal to be smooth and preferred a 3rd party eyeball of float condition. All has been worked out now.

Joel,
Thanks very much for taking time from your fly-in planning last Saturday to take a look at my new floats. I hope you are able to get your plane ready in time.
List,
Joel reported these floats in great shape, just a bit of 'hanger rash' scuffing on the hull caps.
All - it's a treat to be part of this group - seeking help and helping each other.
The floats have been shipped.
I've got lots of work to do but hope to be float flying before summer's over.
Thanks again!
