I picked the 220 ohm resistors a number of years ago
with some notion of "over driving" red leds to get
sunlight viewability flashes. Nowadays, there are high-
intensity leds that perform better at the rated 30 mA
than the older leds peformed at 2x rated current. Hence
and adjustment of the resistor values.
But if what you have in place is working for you, don't
change it.
