Yes, congratulations to James and Ken for getting their cards.

This was a really great clinic. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun.
Though as a newbie, I could not fly my airplane in it, the 18-ship formation
on Sunday was an intense experience.

I am up for this Saturday.

Do not archive

Regards

Paul

As many/most/(all?) of you have probably seen by now, there was a wonderful
formation clinic held at KPKB with Rick Gray as the host.

Great job and thanks to Rick and his crew.

Atending from SERV was:
James Clark (me)
Ken Harrill
Ron Schreck
Paul Franzon

Ken and I have been to other clinics. Ron obviously has MUCHO formation
experience but this was his first one for the RV. And I think this was the
first formation training session at all for Paul. I thik we ALL learned a
LOT.

There were other interested parties but they were not able to attend for
various reasons.

What also occurred but not mentioned in the write-ups is that in a
"checkride" for three potential new FFI cardholders, **TWO** were of the
SERV-gang ... specifically the "Palmetto Wing" of Van's Airforce.

Yes, Ken and I ***finally** did it! We are now officially holders of an "FFI
Wingman" card (in the mail). And I expect that if he wants to, Ron will "git
er dun" pretty soon as well based on some of the photos I saw of his
flights.

Ron and I flew up to PKB together and Ken came up later on Friday afternoon.
Not exactly sure of Paul's arrival time but it was nice to see another face
from the "area".

It was really nice to see about 40 RV's on the ramp and to know that they
were all there to learn more about and to improve their skills in the area
of ***SAFE*** Formation Flying.

See pictures referenced by Rick on the "Vansairforce" web site (

And Robert 'Salty' Saltsman's pics from the clinic can be seen here:

The rest are on Rob's site at:

The videos can be seen here:

----------------

If you look closely, you will see shots of Ron and me arriving in one set
and shots of Ken and me in the middle of the checkride. The "all up" video
(18 planes ... diamond of diamonds (16) + 2) was shot on Sunday morning, the
last day, after much practice and careful selection of the participants.

If you have any desire to ever do any serious (safe) formation flying, I
strongly encourage you to attend one of these clinics. I have been to
several and they improve each tme around, inidcating to me that the leaders
{Stu (Falcon) and Mike (Kahuna)} really listen to the participants. It is
amazing the amount of effort these guys put in to make this all happen.

Now that we are back, it is time for more PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!!

I know that several of us are "out" with regard to aircraft availability
(for several different reasons) over the next 10 days or so, BUT, if anyone
is interested, I am up for going along on a ride almost any day except this
coming Sunday.

If anyone is interested, I have "Thuh Book" with the "RV Supplement"
available for loan. ALSO, as soon as I can find them (loaned out????), I
have "Thuh Videos" as well and will make them available to anyone in the
SERV gang on loan.
James

p.s. A question for "Palmetto Flight" ... would you please email me (or this
list) with the places where we have just recently been asked if we would
make a fly-by?
