Anyone have experience using and/or retrofitting the Vans aileron (spring) trim system?

DLM,
When I finished my RV8 9 years ago (3000 hours since new) I decided that I did not want to destroy the beautiful light control and balance  with a tension device against  the  controls.  I designed trim tabs for both the aelerons and elevator using miniature Menzemer  trim motors.  This resulted  in very controllable  trim without changing the delightful control response of the RV8.  I used a 2 way  rocker type switch with momentary contacts and a electronic indicator for the cockpit.  Also, I now can use all of the fuel from one tank on long trips so that I know for sure where the balance of on board fuel is.  It also alows me to know exactly what my fuel burn is on long trips.
Good Luck.
