I really appreciate the comments on the canopy, thank you for all that responded, it has been very helpful.

Another issue that I would appreciate some commentary on is ignition systems.  I'm plannng to go with a conventional impluse mag on the left and electronic on the right.  Any comments or recommendations would be appreciated.

I have both lightspeed plasma 3 no mags two batteries one for the avionics and one for the ignition. I guess the choice is a personel one. I think there is arguments for and against but my research with friends who have electronic other love the smooth running and better fuel burn. The system will run down to 4.5 v so probably will run out of fuel before battery. A matter of opinion.

Ditto to Aussie Hugh.
I have 2000 plus hours on my dual lightspeed ignition systems on my RV8.  I have on of the first systems and am pleased.  I uses the dual battery system also because it gives redundency in the unlikely event that both the alternnator and one battery failed.  I used the large aircraft battery as primary and a smallbattery wired as a standby.  The engine will run approx. 3 hours on the small standby battery in the event that the primary system failed.
The major advantage of the Lightspeed system is that it is a full capacitance discharge  (40 plus thousand volt) versus a low discharge on the inductive systems that are cheaper.  Engine start is a non event (especially in very cold weather (below zero here in wisconsin). I have found that Nipon Denso
X27GPRU spark plugs work the best.  Also (Alshragg(at)me.com) use MSD racing wire for your harness.  No shield is necessary and it will outlast economy wire used by most auto shops. When you make up your harness, test each wire before installation, it must have 20 or better ohms per foot.
Good luck with your project.  Note:  MSD wire etc. is available at most speed shops.  local or mail order.

I use Odessey batteries, one full size for main power and one small as a backup for my dual lightspeed ignition.  They seem to last longer with no maintenance than lead acid aircraft batteries.  Also, they can be purchased at discount  prices at most auto stores.  The small one will operate the engine for 3 plus hours in the event of alternator failure in flight.
