I’ve drill the canopy to the frame on my RV-7 slider and have encountered the usual problem, it binds on the rollers. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

After taking great pains and several hours to adjust the canopy frame as close to the specs as I could, the frame moved very smoothly on the canopy rails.  After drilling the canopy to the frame and putting it back on the canopy rail it binds.  The frame is being pulled outward by the canopy.  When I move the edges of the canopy inward it moves freely again.

Any suggestions on how to fix it without cracking the canopy?

Thanks for any assistance

I had the exact experience. Very frustrating. I think I removed the canopy from the frame and kept bending it more even though there was a suggested chance of the frame cracking at the drilled holes, but I proceeded any way carefully and the frame did not crack. eventually it worked and when I clecoed the canopy back onto the frame the holes still lined up and the canopy slides acceptably tho not as smoothly as I would have liked.  This was my worst building experience by far and now am having trouble with the aft skirts fairing with the fuselage when the canopy is closed. What a nightmare! I am not the one to ask about this as I have seen a number of sliders that seem to work quite well. No idea how they did it. It seems nearly impossible. The frame just seems not to fit the fuselage period, no matter how much you tweak it. If it fits up front it bulges in the back someplace else.Trying to bend a square steel tube defies the physics of steel structures. Argh!

Guys

i had the same problem however it just seems to free up with every slide. I also had a drama with the rear skirts, nearly drove me mad, i just could not get the skirts to sit flush when the canopy closed. After going round in circles and nearly giving up for fibreglass I found the rear of the plexi glass canopy mould kicked up so I just cut more off the rear section and problem was solved.. Sounds so easy but it nearly drove me nuts. Have a look at the rear of the canopy on the frame and see if this is your problem. I am almost ready to screw mine onto the frame however it needs a few shims and this seems to take more work than i imagined.
Cheers

I have found on my RV8 canopies (2000 hours 3rd canopy) that it is necessary to drill holes for fasteners (I use screws #6/32 and drill and tap canopy rails)  The holes in the plexiglass canopy must be oversize so the canopy can  move around the fastener.  My RV8 canopy will elongate as much as 3/16 inch from winter temps of 0 to 35 degrees to summer temps of 70 to 90 degrees.
Good Luck
