I have a wooden stick grip ( Custom Aircraft Grips through Vans) with just one push button for radio.

Would it be possible to mount an extra disengage button ( for Dynon autopilot) on such a stick grip.
Has anybody done that and satisfied?

 Thanks,
 Jef Vervoort, Belgium.

An alternative is to place a push button on the panel near the throttle. It will fall to hand very naturally there. I've had my autopilot disconnect there for years and never felt that it took me too long to get to when I needed it. Anytime I'm looking for the disconnect, I'm usually already reaching for the throttle. Also a good location for the flap switch.

       | I drilled a hole in the front to mount a second button. The top one is used for autopilot disconnect and the front button under the index finger is PTT.

I would be very careful of what buttons I put on the TOP of your grip, when reading the chart (for example), which can easily depress the disconnect at a time when you need the A/P most

I prefer to give the button a prominent and easy to reach place on the dashboard.

I purchased 2 Infinity sticks for my RV-8A, planning to use all the switches for various HOTAS functions. I ended up using only the Coolie Hat trim switch, the trigger for PTT and the paddle switch for flaps. In the end, I felt the risk of inadvertent fumble fingers activating/deactivating other functions overrode any perceived convenience. However, other folks have utilized all the switches very successfully. As with most things in the homebuilt world, whatever you think works best for you.
