Here’s some information on a new product from Vx Aviation that greatly simplifies the interconnect of EFIS serial ports plus provides single-point ground bus distribution: AXIS-15A. I hope list members find this interesting, as some of the concepts have been discussed on the forum over the years.
Summary:
======
Vx Aviation announced the introduction of the AXIS-15A EFIS Wiring Hub. Providing over 100 pins of connectivity in a compact 3.8” x 2.5” circuit board, the AXIS-15A device greatly simplifies the installation of EFIS systems and the connection of associated avionics in Experimental aircraft.
Using five 15-pin D-Sub connectors, the AXIS-15A device provides for the distribution of EFIS signals using a backplane structure. Each EFIS is plugged into one 15-pin connector, then instruments that require connection to specific signals are connected to one or more of the other connector pins as appropriate for the application. This method simplifies installation and maintenance, facilitates future upgrades and improves system reliability by eliminating the complexity of discrete wiring and crimp splices.
Additionally, two independent connectors are provided that are wired as ground or power distribution buses. Each connector has a 7-pin and an 8-pin bus that is easily jumpered into a single 15-pin bus. In total, this provides up to four independent buses for avionics grounds, miscellaneous power, dimmer circuits or bias voltages. Heavy current Fast-On tabs are provided for main ground/power connections....
======
The website has more information, including an installation guide that shows the before and after of an typical installation (in this case a dual Dynon SkyView system). The device is compatible with most EFIS system, or for that matter any application that requires the distribution of signals in a structured format. The SkyView is unique in that multi-EFIS systems have all of their RS-232 receivers and transmitters connected together. With the AXIS-15A, a second EFIS can be connected into the system serial ports with one 15-pin wiring harness and no cutting and splicing of wires.
